Only Believe

"While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue's house who said, "Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further? As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, "Do not be afraid, only believe" (Mark 5:35-36, NKJV).

This man, this ruler, did not even have a chance to ask Jesus for help before he was given such a devastating report. Imagine what went through his mind at the moment he heard that his daughter was no longer alive. I can only imagine the faith that drove him to Jesus might have been affected, might have been weakened, at least for a moment. The scripture doesn't tell you that, but what it does tell you is that before the man could ask for help, Jesus spoke to him. Before he could pull the words together, Jesus knew. Not only did the ruler just receive a devastating report, his own people told him to give up and to not bother Jesus anymore. But Jesus spoke louder. He spoke directly to the man. He drowned out the noise. He told the man, "Do not be afraid, only believe."
Only believe. When the road has come to an end. Only believe. When the hope is fading. Only believe. When the news is deveasting. Only believe. When people around you tell you to give up. Only believe. When you just can't get it right. Only believe. When the dream fades away. Only believe. When your marriage is almost gone. Only believe. When your child is struggling. Only believe. When the pain is too much to bear. Only believe. When you can’t find someone who cares. Only believe.
We want to encourage you that Jesus is listening. Call upon him. When others tell you to leave him alone. Call upon him. When others put roadblocks in front of you. Call upon Him. When others tell you Jesus is for them, but not you. Call upon Him. He will hear you. Don’t be afraid. Only believe. He will walk with you on this journey. He will walk with you all the way.
