The Journey

As I sat there, it was hard to put everything together. So many thoughts. A mixture of hope, faith, sadness, and thoughts about the future. Hoping for a certain ending, believing for a miracle, and not wanting to think about a life without my friend.

He was a true friend. He was an example of what it looked like to walk by faith. He was full of life and encouraged everyone. He always had a word that was timely. He was a part of my life for so many wonderful memories. He always spoke the truth, in love. Always backed it with scripture. Never condemned. Always built me up. A true friend.
Now in the fight of his life, I found myself sitting next to him. It breaks my heart to write this, but I hope that it encourages you in some way. I opened the bible and asked him where he wanted me to read and with all of his strength he said, "The Lord is my Shepherd." I turned to Psalm 23 and began to read, "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters; he restores my soul. He guides me in the path of righteousness for his name's sake."
Even at the end of his journey on this earth he had a blessed assurance. He had a hope that no man could take away, no sickness could diminish, and there was nothing that could persuade him otherwise - His hope was in Jesus, his good shepherd. He believed until the last breath.
Be encouraged that the same peace my friend had, the same assurance, the same hope is available now and the price has already been paid. God wants to walk with you on this journey and He wants to start now. Only believe.
